CHUANG NAMED BOARD MEMBER FOR AMERICAN STAFFING ASSOCIATION AND THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF GRAPHIC ARTS
Boston (September 5, 2001) — John Chuang, CEO and co-founder of Aquent, the world’s largest talent agency for creative professionals, was recently appointed to the board of directors of the American Staffing Association and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. Chuang also serves as board member for Angie’s List (a consumer advocacy network), JustTechJobs.com, and the Massachusetts Association of Staffing Services.
Chuang founded Aquent in 1986 with Steve Kapner and Mia Wenjen while they were undergraduates at Harvard University. Chuang built the business from a small Harvard Square storefront to a $200 million business with 57 offices worldwide. As the world’s largest talent agency for creative, web and tech professionals, Aquent fills key creative positions at all levels from graphic artists to creative directors.
Since forming the company, Chuang has been a pioneer in the interim staffing industry. He was one of the first to recognize the growing need for highly skilled temporary help, and in 1993 introduced the first comprehensive benefits plan for temps.
In 1993, Ernst & Young named Chuang New England’s “Entrepreneur of the Year for Services,” recognizing him for his outstanding performance and entrepreneurial spirit. In 1999 he was awarded the “High Tech All Star Award” from Mass High Tech - the Journal of New England Technology. Chuang also has received the distinguished “Excellence 2000” award from the United States Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, he was a finalist for “America’s Entrepreneur Award, 2000,” by the Harvard Business School Club of New York.
Chuang, 36, earned a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1987 and an M.B.A. with honors from Harvard Business School in 1992 while serving as Aquent’s (then known as MacTemps) chief executive officer.
