- Steve Kapner Co-Founder and Director
When Steve Kapner showed up at college little did he expect that random freshman rooming assignments would be the beginning of a decades-long business partnership. As it turned out his roommate was John Chuang and downstairs lived Mia Wenjen. Together the three of them launched a desktop publishing business from their dorm room that eventually grew into the $500 million global enterprise known today as Aquent.
Since the company’s inception Steve has played a central role in developing and implementing the company’s strategy. In the early days everyone basically had to do everything, and Steve’s roles ranged from sales to operations to office management. He has since served as chief financial officer, general manager of an internal technology start-up, and president of both Creative and IT Staffing businesses. He currently is based in Tokyo where he runs Aquent’s Japan operations.
Outside of Aquent Steve has managed venture capital investments for Harvard University’s endowment fund and worked as a strategy consultant for the Boston Consulting Group. He is chairman of the Aspire Group, Aquent’s staffing business for security-cleared personnel, and serves on the board of directors of Angie's List, a consumer advocacy network.
Steve earned an AB cum laude from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He has co-hosted a weekly radio talk show, trained on an amphibious assault ship with the US Navy, and has had Tom Peters ask for his advice.
