Content Editor – MSN - £35k-£40k - ASAP Start

Our client, MSN are seeking a brilliant Homepage Editor for MSN UK based out of their office in London Victoria.

You will be editing the MSN homepage – making sure that the homepage features exciting breaking news from around the world, the latest sports updates and the juiciest entertainment news. You will have previous working experience of working in a live news desk and be able to spot stories and write catchy copy about them before they start trending. Knowledge of SEO and a proven track record of increasing click through rates would be advantageous.

You should be confident to lead editorial meetings, setting the agenda for the site and ensuring content is delivered and of a high standard. You will have a good general knowledge across all areas of MSN and be interested in world events and popular culture.

You will be energetic, agile and be comfortable moving with change and will enjoy working with a driven but fun team.

Our client is looking for someone to start ASAP on a contract lasting until the end of June 2013, with the possibility of an extension to ongoing work. The role is paying between £35000 – £40000.

Please note, the role works on shift patterns and some bank holiday and weekend work will be required. The shift patterns are between 7am – midnight on a rotation basis.

- Proven experience of setting the news agenda at editor level
- Will have covered daily news for a website, newspaper or magazine
- Must demonstrate an ability to spot subjects before they trend and write witty and engaging copy about them
- Must be passionate about popular culture and sport and demonstrate extensive knowledge of both
- Must be passionate about UK and international news and have proven experience of covering both
- Must have a track record of smart news judgment
- Must write stop-you-in-your-tracks headlines
- Be able to demonstrate an ability to operate under pressure
- React quickly to produce up to the minute articles
- Must be able to demonstrate being able to identify stories which reflect MSN’s Best of Now agenda
- Demonstrate a great eye for pictures and how to turn them into stories

MSN homepage is at the heart of the MSN operation, with a new culture of up to the minute, real time reporting within a fast paced, creative content environment, we are the engine that drives traffic to the site and are at the forefront in the campaign to make people choose MSN. We are leaders in presenting the best of now to the audience. We are responsible for driving revenue to the site through clever and timely promotion.

Key Accountabilities
- To reflect the best of now on the MSN UK homepage, mobile and slate device
- Make sure homepage content is real-time, fresh, engaging, witty and memorable
- Be able to react quickly and creatively to produce engaging up to the minute content
- To work on a variety of entry points and platforms for MSN as required by the business
- Use of clever headlines dedicated SEO and to making people click
- Generate content and promotion ideas
- Lead a team of peers on the homepage team, and the wider newsroom
- Create a buzz around MSN homepage
- Liaise with channels to commission content
- Write water-cooler trending blog posts
- Reach out to the audience through social media
- Handle breaking news quickly and professionally
- Make an impact through picture choice
- Juggle competing interests within the newsroom and commercial partners
- Balance the real-time philosophy with revenue-critical promotion
- Liaise professionally with other parts of MSN, including the inventory manager, special promotions and sales
- Promote and support Microsoft products, charitable work and Bing
- Take an active part in content creation, as much as time allows, to enable the homepage to be a content creator as well as user
